John Lewis Ashcroft was born February 1,
1927, and grew up at Mt Pritchard, NSW. Another successful winner
of Australia's Amateur Hour, he worked from that solid beginning
until he gained a recording deal with Rodeo Records in 1954.
The Johnny Ashcroft Show pioneered the
first break-throughs into the metropolitan club circuit for country
music, a place some believed country music could never reach.
Johnny was, and is, a skilful songwriter.
He is most certainly to be long remembered for the story of Guyra
local Steven Walls in the classic real-life drama captured in
his song Little Boy Lost.
A talented man who used his influence to
help establish what is now one of Australia's biggest markets
for country music, Johnny is now retired from the entertainment
business.
